Pre-anesthetic evaluation consist of a detailed history, physical examination focusing on the airway and spine and a battery of investigations, referrals to specialists based on the co-morbidity, stage of cancer and nature/extent of proposed surgery Counselling of patients is done for every patient before undergoing a surgery. A detailed pre-anesthetic form Is completed before surgery Pre-operative assessment include taking multiple opinions prior to the operation and deciding to provide the right technique, regional anesthesia or a combination of the two. In the postoperative period, the patient is shifted to the surgical ICU for variable periods of time for monitoring of vitals, pain relief, and mechanical ventilator support as and when required.
