The Department of Anesthesiology at Salem Poly Clinic comprises a team of highly trained anesthetists dedicated to providing the highest quality of per operative care to patients during surgeries that last long hours. Pre-anesthetic evaluation consist of a detailed history, physical examination focusing on the airway and spine and a battery of investigations, referrals to specialists based on the co-morbidity, stage of cancer and nature/extent of proposed surgery Counselling of patients is done for every patient before undergoing a surgery. A detailed pre-anesthetic form Is completed before surgery Pre-operative assessment include taking multiple opinions prior to the operation and deciding to provide the right technique, regional anesthesia or a combination of the two. In the postoperative period, the patient is shifted to the surgical ICU for variable periods of time for monitoring of vitals, pain relief, and mechanical ventilator support as and when required. We provide critical care and comprehensive pain management services during surgery with well-trained professionals, nurses and case management.

   The department evaluates patients at the Clinic for Anaesthesiology and Perioperative  Opinion prior to the scheduled operation date, with the aim to assess their peri-operative risks through history, examination and tests, followed by risk optimisation through appropriate consultations and interventions.

   Discussion of various anaesthetic options and post-operative pain management strategies, as well as education of topics on pre-operative preparation, such as fasting, will be carried out.
